About the Rotary Club

THE ROTARY CLUB OF AMHERST

The Amherst Rotary Club is one of over 33,000 Rotary clubs in over 200 countries world wide belonging to Rotary International. The Rotary Club is made up of a diverse membership from the business, professional and civic communities of the world. As members of the Amherst Rotary Club we all strive to foster the ideal of "Service Above Self" while at the same time enjoying the fellowship and camaraderie of fellow members through our weekly luncheons and various service projects.

The Amherst club was chartered in 1926, and covers Amherst, Belchertown, Hadley, Leverett, Pelham and Shutesbury. Our club, composed of some 90 business and professional leaders, meets weekly and is dedicated to community improvement through doing, and helping to finance, good works- both locally and internationally.

Our service projects locally have included, the Dictionary Project and our annual Christmas Party for the children associated with Family Outreach of Amherst. Additionally, our charitable giving has provided scholarships to 6 local high school students each year and financial gifts given to Big Brothers big Sisters, the Amherst Survival Center, Not Bread Alone, Reader to Reader, the Town of Amherst, and many others. On the international level the Amherst Club has a public health project in Pskov, Russia and Rotary International has been instrumental in helping to almost wipe out polio, as well as sponsoring health, education, hunger and humanity programs all over the world.

The Amherst Rotary Club raises money for its various giving programs and service projects from the Amherst Town Fair, COVAC Bicycle Ride and the annual Amherst Rotary Auction. We meet every Thursday at noon at the Hickory Ridge Golf Course for luncheons.
